Favorite inspirational quote: “Life is available only in the present moment. If you abandon the present moment you cannot live the moments of your daily life deeply.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

When/where/with who was your first yoga class? My first yoga class was at a friends studio in Newton after college. I practiced mostly using DVD's for years until I found MetroWest Yoga. I took Shawn's flow class with my friend Lindsay in 2014 and have been hooked ever since!

What / who inspires you? My children, my husband, and my grandfather who just turned 103.

What I love most about yoga is: Yoga has helped me in my life in so many ways. As soon as I hit my mat I am dedicated to “letting go” and living in the moment. I try to apply that to my life off the mat as well.

What you can’t live without? My dog Bodhi, animals in general, music, and yoga. I guess I should add my mom's corn chowder in there too!

What you might not know about me: I had dreadlocks for seven years and finally chopped them off when my first son was 5 weeks old.

Best advice you’ve ever received (from who?): “If you don't at least try, you will never know.” My husband says this to me all the time. I have anxiety so whenever I feel like it is getting in the way of me doing something that I really want to do, I think of that and it really pushes me to “try”. I would have missed out on so much in life if it weren't for him.

My favorite book: How Yoga Works

Amy Loughlin instructs the following:
  • Kid's Yoga (5-11 yrs old)
  • Kids yoga classes are fun and inspirational with a consistent balance between fun and focus. Classes promote self-respect and confidence, respect for others, the ability to focus, and to build social skills while increasing flexibility. Storytelling as well as classes with animal and nature themes power kids yoga classes.

Classes combine free movement in poses and structures stillness hopefully cultivating a sense of mindfulness and calm. Breathing and visualization help to create connection between the mind and the body. All kids yoga classes are meant to bring peace and to build inner and outer strength and awareness.
