Yin Yoga is simple, but simple does not mean easy.” — Bernie Clark
Rather than focusing on strengthening the muscles and creating heat, as in a Yang/Flow Yoga practice, a Yin Yoga practice targets the connective tissue - the fascia and ligaments - which surrounds the joints of the body, eventually generating more flexibility within the physical body and stillness, receptivity, and serenity within the emotional body.
In this non-alignment focused practice, poses are held for three to five minutes with little or no muscular contractions, allowing the body to adapt and respond to the stretch at a depth which is individually appropriate.
There are numerous benefits to a Yin Yoga practice, including:
-Calming, regulating and balancing the energy in the mind and the body
-Lowering stress levels and increasing stamina -Lubricating and protecting the joints
-Creating space, which translates to greater flexibility
-Building for a more grounded, open, focused, and stronger Flow Yoga practice

Bio:Janet attended her first yoga class in 2001, received her 200 RYT at Sol Yoga in Frederick MD in 2010, and earned her 500 RYT at Kripalu in 2013. Throughout the years, Janet has learned that yoga, like all things in life, is a process, one that requires patience and commitment, and is about the breath and the way we lead our lives. She strongly believes that we do “have the power to choose, moment by moment, who and how we want to be in this world.” As such, she takes her committed daily yoga practice with her on all of her journeys in life, from the lovely confines of the yoga studio to the amazing expanse of the mountains and the seas, and brings joy, breath, and a sense of humility in a safe, instructional, and engaging manner to all of her classes.
