Class Descriptions

MYoga Classes

(Mild Heat: room is heated at 90 degrees)
(Hot: room is heated at 95 degrees)

(No heat added: room is warm but no heat is added during class. 80 – 85 degrees

 Note: All yoga classes at Metrowest Yoga are meditative and spiritual. We teach with heart. All classes are choreographed to move the body through each body part and build strength while releasing tension and stress. Each class leaves the entire body feeling healthier, more connected and the mind feeling peaceful!

Flow - MYoga Flow Yoga covers a wide variety of yoga styles. Including; Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Bikram and Baptiste. It is a vigorous practice that strengthens the core muscles in the body, enhances flexibility, while encouraging deep concentration and focus. All Flow Yoga is practiced in a heated room. The heat encourages perspiration, which helps to detoxify and cleanse the body. The muscles respond to the heat by relaxing and allowing us to move deeper into a posture. There is an assumption that you have practiced before, so there is less attention to alignment ques. This moves at a faster pace to elevate the heart rate and elevate the cardiovascular system as well as develop strength and flexibility. This practice will tone and sculpt your body and heal your soul. Be prepared to sweat, and discover your inner strength!

MYoga Hot HathaThis invigorating and mindful series that Shawn developed incorporates strengthening postures as well as emphasizing stillness and focus. Postures are held longer than our flow classes. The practice allows for students to work with their breath while developing strength and flexibility. Be prepared to transform your practice.  Open to all levels. It will challenge the experienced student, but moves slow enough for a newer student.

Deeper Flow – This class is open to all levels but assumes you have practiced Flow or Vinyasa style yoga and have a basic understanding of alignment. We will explore how to deepen the opening and increase range of motion in most postures as well as learn how to safely move toward some of the more challenging postures with strength and confidence. Being more mindful about alignment and moving with integrity is emphasized.

Slow Flow -MYoga Slow Flow incorporates the same principles as MYoga Flow, with less postures than a regular Flow Yoga class — more emphasis on alignment, breath and the foundational tools of a yoga practice. We recommend 3 -6  classes before attending a regular Flow Yoga class.

Flow (Hour) -Follows the format of the MYoga Flow  class but is condensed to 1 hour.

Beginner Flow – An entry level class geared toward beginner’s -still a flow class, but more demonstration if needed. emphasis on alignment, breath and the foundational tools of a yoga practice. There is no heat added to these classes and students are encouraged to rest moreNo heat added

Prana Flow- this heated vinyasa class is an energetic, creative full spectrum approach to embodying the flow of yoga cultivated by Shiva Rhea.  Students are invited to experience prana, the universal source of breath, life energy, and conscious intelligence, as the navigating source of yoga practice and vital living. Experience both classical and innovative approaches to vinyasa yoga and the state of flow within the rhythm of this class.

YinYasa – YinYasa The word Vinyasa means to place or arrange. Yin is the quality of slow, cool, and calm. The playful and poetic swapping of “Yin” for “Vin” implies that the nature of these Vinyasa classes are slow and purposeful. The asana work is deliberate, methodical and slowly builds into a peak pose or to open a specific body part. There is good focus on healthy alignment while weaving in the wisdom of the yoga philosophy, also keeping it light and playful all while working hard. A perfect Hatha Yoga experience, light and intense, effort and yield, soft and hard, yin and yang, work and play!

Balanced Athlete - CA/Core Awakening:  Recommended all new Balanced Athlete students take at least two of these classes first. This practice helps you to learn to integrate all of the body in every movement. Also to assess your physical body for any limitations or imbalances and work to correct them before moving on to the higher intensity classes that could include weights. No heat added

Balanced Athlete -H.I.I.T (High Intensity Training): This practice is still a mindfulness practice but you bring in higher intensity movements to work the cardiovascular system which strengthens the heart muscle. Helps to build endurance, mobility, stability and strength. This is MYoga’s answer to Crossfit. We recommend at least two BA/CA (Core Awakening) classes before taking this class. No heat added

Community Class:  These classes are for our teachers in training who have completed their 200 hour training and are now certified, but are new to teaching. The class is offered at half price($9) per class and proceeds are donated to a local charity. Cash or check only. (Class passes cannot be used)

Other Classes

Ashtanga:  The primary series, called Yoga Chikitsa, which means yoga therapy, realigns the spine, detoxifies the body, and builds strength, flexibility and stamina. The series of about 75 poses takes an hour and a half to complete, beginning with sun salutations and moving on to standing poses, seated poses, inversions and back bends before relaxation. No heat added

Intro to Ashtanga: Suitable for all levels – Please inform the instructor at the start of class if you have any physical limitations or injuries. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, taught in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, is a dynamic practice that comprises a precise series of postures done in sequential order, linked together with breath. This introductory class is suitable for anyone interested in learning about and practicing Ashtanga yoga. Based off of the primary series of Ashtanga vinyasa yoga, in this class we will take extra time to explain the body position, breath, benefits, bandhas (energy locks), and drishti (gaze point) of the postures and vinyasas. We will give modifications for each posture to make full primary series as accessible as possible. Beginners and advanced students alike can benefit from an in depth study of the practice and its many subtle details. Ultimately, we will work towards practicing full primary series mindfully and with grace. No heat added

Gentle/Restorative- A meditative and gentle practice, including stretching asanas (poses) to increase flexibility and release stress. A perfect choice for anyone looking to reduce stress, recover from injury, cope with arthritis, and prepare for pregnancy. No heat added

Open Meditation – Various teachers will guide this class. Combining deep breathing and seated stillness, you will develop a sense of inner calm and clarity. No heat added

Kids’ ClassesYoung people love yoga and are natural yogis! Yoga increases their strength and flexibility as well as their ability focus and calm themselves.
