Good Friday Good Vibrations! (Music Class)
withStephaniePratico at Worcester
Fri, Jun 2, 2017 at 7:15 pm - 9:15 pm
Join us for a fun and playful all-level hot flow sequence as Steph spins a blend of contemporary hit music! Elements of music therapy and yoga will be intertwined with a coordinated playlist of electronic, pop, dance, and reggae to provide an energetic rhythm for practice.
How can Good Vibrations deepen your practice?
* A mindfully crafted soundscape can provide opportunities for students to experience positive physiologic responses to music and movement. This stimulation can enhance a yoga practice as the body and breath naturally entrain to rhythm.
* Our central nervous systems inherently match beat and tempo, making movements natural and automatic, which can further be explored with breath work in a vinyasa flow.
* The brain responds positively to predictable, structured, and organized sound, which can either be used to energize or unwind the body when the music is deliberately chosen with these intentions.
* As music taps into emotional experiences and memories, we often notice therapeutic effects when using music to work through areas of discord or tension.
* Music provides a space for fun, social connection! Anthropologists and ethnomusicologists have found that all cultures throughout time and history have had active musical traditions, serving to connect community and enhance self-expression of the times.

Chakra Series - Workshop
withHeatherCastagnaro at Worcester
Sun, Jun 4, 2017 at 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
This chakra series will be a monthly offering that will focus on one chakra. The subtle body is part of you that you cannot see. This is where our energy flows and it is believed that we have seven main energy centers within the body known as chakras.
By working with each Chakra we have the potential to redirect this energy and create a deeper connection to our yoga practice on and off the mat. Each class will incorporate physical movement (asana), breath (pranayama), intention and other tools that will correspond to the specific chakra chosen for that month.
Feel free to wear colors or bring inspirational objects that correspond to each chakra and represent a positive connection for you.

A Deeper Look into your Practice
withRotatingTeacher at Westboro
Sun, Jun 4, 2017 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Metrowest yoga will be offering a workshop series dedicated to deepening your understanding of specific poses. This comprehensive series will allow our skilled Teachers to go beyond the scope of a regular class in order to help make sense of difficult to grasp poses. For example, inversions can be challenging, and yes a little scary but we will give you the tools you need to find new strength and perspective in achieving these often challenging poses. Each week one of our Teachers will lead a class geared towards a different pose, tailoring a sequence specifically focused on the pose at hand. Understanding the principles of the poses and how they relate to each other can help clear some of the mystery behind the practice. Strengthen your practice by expanding your knowledge.
If you are an artist and are curious how yogic practices can feed your creativity, this workshop is for you! According to Brene Brown's research 85% of people remember a shaming event in child hood, with 50% of those events involve shaming around creative expression. Explore how combining self compassion with meditation, movement, writing, sound healing, and experimenting with watercolors can work together to free your creative energy. "You are a born maker and we need what you have to bring to the world, because only you can make it. Unused creativity is not benign." ~ Brene Brown Please come with a yoga mat, a journal and an open mind.

Pamela Esty is an artist, graphic designer, former creative director and yoga teacher. Esty’s approach is akin to the surrealist automatic writers. She approaches her paintings without sketching beforehand; laying paint upon paper, working from the center towards the edges, then drawing with ink to finish her pieces. “The creatures, beings, places come from my subconscious. I am fascinated by what happens with watercolor. I don’t try to control the water and paint, rather, I let it flow and with it my imagination.”
