The asana (postures) practice of yoga was initially designed to help us sit more comfortably in a still meditation. Now we know that the movement meditation that has developed over time is also vital to our well being. The hips especially tend to hold life’s stress and tension. The Vinyasa style includes many hip openers, so we are opening our hips with each class. But this workshop will dive into some of the challenges we develop and how to work with them. We will also explore how the practice encourages us to focus on the “Body, Mind and Spirit”.
Body/Physically
Hip openers make us feel more comfortable just moving around in our daily lives. The hips are a “ball and socket” joint. That includes 6 directions of movement. A regular practice that includes all 6 basic movements will improve range of motion, increase circulation, and decrease the likelihood of injury.
Mind/Emotionally
Like our shoulders(also a “ball and socket” joint) we hold trauma in our hips. Releasing tension and stress that we hold in our bodies over time, opens up channels of energy. We feel more vibrant and are more content.
Spirit
When we are physically healthy and our minds are relaxed weare closest to our true nature or spirit. We are our best selves.
